Every story on this site rests on at least one primary source - documents I've read, people I've interviewed, or events I've attended. Where a piece relies on reporting by others, the work is attributed and linked in line.
Anonymous sources are used sparingly and only when the public interest is served by speaking on background. Their identity is known to me. Where a claim from an anonymous source is load-bearing, it is corroborated by at least one independent source before it appears in print.
Corrections are public. When a piece is updated to fix a factual error, a correction note is appended at the top of the article with the date, what changed, and why. Substantial corrections also enter a running log on the corrections page.
Financial and editorial independence: this site accepts no advertising, no sponsored content, and no payments from the subjects of its reporting. Independent reporting is funded by paid subscribers to the weekly letter and by freelance bylines published elsewhere.
